So what is this madness Kai? Do you have a genre? Style?
Formality and convention are beautiful ideas but they don’t play well with my chaos. And labels are too restrictive. Let me paint you a picture...
I create intelligent and intuitive imagery from a kaleidoscope of colorful words. Each canvas tells a story; each brushstroke illustrates an idea. I unravel the chaotic, simplify the complex and make the hard topics easier to understand. And in the end I hope to leave you with more knowledge, some inspiration, and a workable plan. I am trying to spread awareness on mental health issues. I have to make my words poetic, with a bit of humor sprinkled within. I write creative interpretation on theories in neuroscience - it’s a hard sell to ask anyone to join me hack the brain. This is why I also write companion glossaries - science jargon reads like gibberish from a new language - ten syllable words that some mad scientists brewed up a cauldron - pure madness dreamed up in a lab.

CREATIVITY CHAOS ... is my genre
and I like to think of my style as some
CHAOS and FLOW ... After Dark

CHAOS and FLOW ... After Dark
I have a degree in English from a very structured and formal literary program. My education taught me the rules of language and the classical traditions of writing. To me, creativity is all about bending, breaking and blowing up conventional rules. And I love to do that. Chaos may be my freedom of creative expression, but my nature also demands high standards for quality. I may write in chaos, but I always edit in order.
MY GOALS:
My goal is to inform, inspire, spark awareness and reduce stigma. I can achieve these goals with the rational side of my brain effectively. But rational writing produces 9th grade biology textbooks that only get opened when it is time to gut a frog. That text teaches you to know the right answers. Balance means letting your creative brain storm the classroom to teach you to ask the right questions. Once you start asking the right questions, then you start changing how you think.
We can all memorize facts and figures, recite them on a test and then forget them before we make it to the door to leave. Let’s set aside the true and false bubblegum twins because they only answer questions as absolutes which do not change. There is no cognitive growth or development when yes or no questions teach you to respond with absolute yes or no answers.
This is convergent thought.
Convergent Thought is a dude who lives with two roommates, twins called logic and reason, in a compact, precisely-sized square cardboard box positioned in a perfect state called Order. This state is heavily governed with absolutes and it policed by a law with very finite rules. But convergent thought has a wild and crazy cousin called Divergent Thought. We love this guy.
Divergent started life in the State of Order but he quickly realized that he was chained inside his box like it was a prison. So he uploaded everything on his computer to the cloud (his memory), packed a bag and then he ripped the roof off of the box. He flattened the walls and then he set it on fire to ensure he would never be shackled again. On his way out of town he parked his Harley by his cousin's box to say goodbye. His cuz is a very helpful and giving dude so he let him upload more knowledge to his memory cloud. So when divergent blew out of town, he did so with all the knowledge he needed for logical and analytical thought. He set off for the State of Chaos, where people had the right to express themselves with bold use of creativity, imagination and innovative thought.

Chaos has one rule ... everyone must wear the cloak of curiosity. This ensures they would always remember to ask the most important question.
The question of “why?”
CURIOSITY is the driving force of my divergent thought and acquired knowledge in my cloud is convergent thought, or how I make sense of the world.
Divergent (right brain) first asks the question “why?” Then convergence (left brain) follows it up with the question “how?” Both are essential for writing nonfiction. My style, Chaos and Flow, is an eccentric utilization of questions and answers about what I find fascinating and interesting. My topics of conversation have no limitations and my curiosity will also drive those conversations to learn and grow. I generally write nonfiction with a STEM component and my goal is to educate and inform. I chose the area of mental health because my curiosity needed to make sense of my own brain. I have ADHD and I went undiagnosed for most of my life so I had to make sense of my own brain to find an order. So I packed curiosity and knowledge into an RV to start my mental health journey. The questions of “why” and “how” drove my RV into the big city of neuroscience and psychology and that’s where we picked up a hitchhiker named Mindfulness. It is also there I found my writing purpose.
My purpose at first was to learn what I could about the brain and the power of the mind within it. With this acquired knowledge I could make sense of my ADHD brain and the brain of the little girl following in my footsteps. When you have ADHD your brain functions differently than normal brains. I wanted to know why and then I wanted to know how my brain works. From there I learned how to work with it to maximize my performance. And I saw amazing results from meditating with my hippie buddy, Mindfulness. So I started doing more and documenting my results. Recently Mindfulness pulled the RV off the road and parked us at a funky hotel. This is where I finally, after years of work, unpacked my book Unravel the ADHD Mind. It would take a while before I hit the publish button though. I wasn’t yet ready because I still had questions. But we celebrated the first draft with whiskey and skinny dipping in the pool.

STILL CURIOUS
We hit the road with my mind swimming with new unrelated questions. There are very important people in my life who have PTSD and I thought about Mindfulness. And then I hit the books because we found our next next destination. Curiosity to answer the “why” and “how” were once again the drivers of the RV but this time the fuel source was my empathy and compassion. I wanted to help my loved ones. Then I wanted to help everybody. And my navigator, as always, was my trusted companion Mindfulness. Our journey took a few years but hard work brought results. It was just recently that we hauled out a 6 book series called Healing the PTSD Mind out of the RV. We hit publish on this series and and then we hit publish on the ADHD one sitting on the shelf too. We hit publish on everything.
We are now taking a much needed break to enjoy the beauty a nice campground but the RV is ready to hit the road for our next destination where we eventually hope to arrive at more answers. This time to the questions “why” and “how” on the topic of Neuroplasticity. This is the brain's ability to change form and structure to adapt, learn, grow and ultimately, heal. This is my ultimate focus and has been since I discovered that my navigator, Mindfulness, is really a race car driver and the catalyst in all of this. We just need to go pick up his racecar and get him to the Daytona 500 where the race of a lifetime is taking place. The finish line is my book on mindfulness and neuroplasticity and how they work together to increase peak performance. So we need the RV to hit the road so we can get there before Denny Hemlin takes the win.
So I have a few things for you to download and read! A few websites to peruse, you can view my websites and blogs and download my books here - always absolutely free - articles, narratives, commentaries, fact sheets, and guidebooks.

Once you’ve mastered the science of the brain (my primary focus) there is the back room behind the curtain. Take caution because there may - or may not - be a hippie love in going on back there. Don’t let the chanting scare you - it’s just the language of love. I explore love from very different perspectives, introduce you to your soulmate, analyze your soulmate’s brain for evidence proving he’s not a catfish, and then it’s time to join the hippies for a little amateur poetry night where I do my best to deliver you something that can get you fired up for your late night rendezvous with your soulmate. After the kids go to bed and the dishes are done.
And finally, there may be a little creative storytelling of a risque nature. Adults only - email me your ID proving you are 18. Of course I will accept the fake one that says you are 18 even though that ship has sailed around the world a few dozen times and then dry docked a decade or two. Read at your own risk.
